What DJs charge in 2026 for weddings, quinceañeras, birthdays and corporate events, what changes the price, and how to compare DJ quotes fairly.

Most party DJs in the U.S. charge somewhere between $100 and $200 an hour, and most events book about four hours. That puts a typical party somewhere around $450 to $900, with weddings and quinceañeras costing more because they run longer and need more planning.
Average DJ prices by event
These averages come from 2026 bookings on The Bash, an entertainment booking site:
| Event | Average price | Typical length |
|---|---|---|
| Kids' birthday | $434 | 3.5 hours |
| Adult birthday | $550 | about 4 hours |
| Prom | $550 | 3.5 hours |
| Sweet 16 | $620 | about 4 hours |
| Wedding | $860 | 5 hours |
| Bar or bat mitzvah | $875 | 4 hours |
| Corporate event | $920 | 3.5 hours |
| Quinceañera | $1,160 | 5.5 hours |
Wedding numbers vary a lot by source. Couples in The Knot's 2026 Real Weddings Study reported paying $1,800 on average for a wedding DJ, roughly double the booking-site average, because full-service wedding DJs usually include an MC, ceremony sound, extra speakers and a planning meeting or two.
What changes the price
- Hours. Most DJs price by the event with a minimum (often 3 or 4 hours), then charge per extra hour.
- Date. Saturday nights in spring, early summer and December book up first and cost the most.
- Location and travel. Big-city DJs charge more, and many add a travel fee past a set distance.
- MC duties. Running the program (entrances, toasts, the waltz, cake cutting) takes skill and preparation.
- Extra equipment. Dance floor lighting, uplighting, a fog machine, a second sound system for a ceremony or cocktail hour, wireless microphones, a photo booth.
- Experience. A DJ who has played hundreds of weddings or quinceañeras knows how to keep the night on schedule.
How to compare DJ quotes
When you have two or three quotes, put them next to each other and check:
- Hours included and the price of each extra hour.
- What's in the setup: speakers, lights, microphones, a backup system.
- Whether MC duties are included and if there's a planning call before the event.
- Travel, setup and overtime fees.
- Deposit and cancellation terms.
- Reviews from people who actually booked them, not only photos.
